At a fancy pool party, Miami socialite Ethan Parker is shot during a hold-up while starlet Dakota Hudson's diamonds are stolen, she was also shot in the pool. Another plausible motive is to cash in on the 'death pool' bet organized by Hover Gambling on its cruiser, Fortune maker. Furthermore the diamonds prove to be fake and there is a particularly immoral case of extortion going on.
